Speak up for older people and climate action

Extreme weather poses serious risks to older people. As we age, it becomes harder for our bodies to regulate temperature. This makes us more vulnerable to heat and cold.

When climate-related diasters such as flooding, droughts and wildfires hit, older people often suffer the most. These events frequently cause health systems to collapse, cutting off the vital support so many people depend upon.

Older people have a huge amount to offer in the fight against climate change. Despite this, their rights are often overlooked and they are excluded from climate action efforts.

Will you write to your MP today? Please request they ask Kerry McCarthy MP, Minister for Climate, to recognise older people's rights and the specific risks that extreme weather creates for older people. And that older people's wisdom and experience should be central to how governments develop solutions to how we adapt to the changing climate.

On the next page, we've drafted an email you can edit and send to your MP.
